Trombetta on Monster Book Bash: ‘Monstrous’ that some Americans can’t read

MIDLAND, Pa. - Because illiteracy is such a chilling problem in today’s society, Lincoln Interactive and PA Cyber Charter School have called in the monsters to promote reading this Halloween.

At a Monster Book Bash on Wednesday, Oct. 29, National Network of Digital Schools personnel will conduct storybook readings at the Carnegie Libraries of Midland, Pa., and East Liverpool, Ohio. Dressed in costume for Halloween, NNDS staff members will host story hours at each library: from 11 a.m. to noon in East Liverpool and from 4 to 5 p.m. in Midland.

“It is monstrous that we still have people in America who can’t read and write,” said Dr. Nick Trombetta, CEO of the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and founder of NNDS. “Every child should be excited about reading, and the way that starts is for adults to read storybooks to them at a very early age.”

At the event, NNDS employees will read from Lincoln Interactive’s original Little Lincoln Reading Series. Copies of the books are to be donated to each library, along with money and storybooks collected in a drive involving employees of NNDS, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School and Center, and PA Cyber Charter School.

The first five in a series of 12 storybooks being developed for grades K-4 have been printed, using animated characters created by Lincoln Interactive. They are: “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully,” “Wilda’s General Store Adventure,” “Super Dewey,” Seasons of the Great Tree” and “The Perfect Dress.” The same storybook characters are being used throughout the state-approved Lincoln Interactive curriculum for primary grades.

NNDS (www.nndsonline.org) is the developer and exclusive distributor of Lincoln Interactive (www.lincolninteractive.com), the main curriculum used by Pennsylvania’s largest public online school, PA Cyber Charter School (www.pacyber.org). The nation’s newest and most innovative online curriculum, Lincoln Interactive is used by students in all types of schools across the country, including private and public, faith-based, traditional school districts, home schooling and online schools.
